The WalkerBai Fire Engineering team were engaged by Diecke Richards to provide the Fire Engineering Services for the expansion of the existing Benevolent Living Aged Care located in Rockhampton. The expansion entailed the construction of 3 new buildings to be incorporated into the existing site; a 4-storey residential aged care building, a five storey independent living building with basement car parking and single storey back-of-house building with rooftop gardens. The project provided a unique challenge for our engineers, with the above new buildings and existing structures being linked to form a single united building. WalkerBai worked closely with the architects and the hydraulic engineers, ACOR Consultants, to develop a holistic, effective fire safety strategy that addresses the united building as a whole. This included the preparation of fire engineered solutions for the performance-based separation of the new and existing wings and the new fire safety systems to achieve protection of the egress paths throughout the site within the design constraints of the available infrastructure.
