41 George Street
WalkerBai collaborated with Nettleton Tribe on the design of the major refurbishment of Mineral House located on 41 George Street. The refurbishment included the extension and upgrade to the entrance and lift lobby, 2 new food and beverage tenancies, the extension of an existing tenancy, and the addition of end of trip facilities located in the basement.
WalkerBai’s Specialist Lighting team worked closely with Nettleton Tribe to provide a lighting solution that truly enhanced the architectural design. Rather than using blanket lighting levels throughout the lobby, we implemented a lighting design that specifically highlights the building’s architecture. The team approached the lighting concept in ‘layers’. Firstly, by illuminating vertical surfaces throughout, we were able to provide a bright spatial impression, enhancing the surfaces which feature stone walls and timber panelling. The next layer was aimed at creating hierarchy within the space, by encouraging movement and defining key areas of the lobby (i.e. Reception, Lounge Area & Lift Core). The final layer was the use of the ‘light’ itself. We used feature pendant clusters, suspended from the double height ceiling, and pendants above the reception area.
WalkerBai provided Electrical, Mechanical, Fire and Hydraulic Services to the project.
